THIRD SHIFT
Nurse NAOMI TAYLOR is not having a good day. She’s been bitten, peed on, cussed out, and the one thing she was looking forward to - scrubbing in on a surgery - was taken away from her. She loves her patients more than anything, but after ten straight days of twelve-hour shifts, she just wants to go home and crawl under a blanket.
With less than an hour left on her shift, a very charming, yet menacing man by the name of LIAM approaches the nurses’ station demanding to see someone named KELLEY SANDOVAL. Naomi swears she has no idea who that is, but Liam is desperate to find Kelley. He and his two equally terrifying associates barricade the staff and its patients into the hospital, cut the hospital’s power, and refuse to leave without her. He puts three stab wounds into the Head of Nursing to prove his point.
Kelley is nine months pregnant and the mother of Liam’s child. Wanting a better life for her and her unborn child, she stole $500,000 from Liam. 500k he owes to some very bad people. It's his life or hers, and he chooses himself. With patient machines running on backup power in this dilapidated hospital and Kelley’s baby arriving any minute, an exhausted Naomi must fight for her patients and learn to stand up for herself if she is going to make it off this shift alive.

The word family conjures up a lot of feelings for people. Some feelings bring smiles, and some bring tears. For many of us, it is our "Found Family" that we come to rely on in life. They are not blood related, but they are the ones you count on most in your life. They are the ones who show up to help you move, hold your hand while you cry. They are also often the people you suspect. This is that story.
In addition to being our first produced feature, Third Shift is the pilot project of an educational filmmaking initiative designed to bridge the gap between student and professional filmmaker. For most filmmakers, their first job in the industry is as a Production Assistant. They are the “Go For.” Like many interns across any industry, they spend a lot of time getting coffee and making copies. Don't get me wrong, you learn a lot about filmmaking, but it can be hard to learn the job of a cinematographer or a gaffer when the film is shooting, and you’re standing in line at Starbucks.
Each film produced through this initiative will be comprised of 80-85% union professional filmmakers and 15-20% student externs. These paid externships will be open to individuals who have graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program within the last two years. Future writers will assist in the writer’s room. Future costumers will have a needle and thread in hand. Students will work under supervised guidance in the departments in which they received their degree.
